The Diabetes SA Global Walk - Durban!

Do you have a number? Are you a Type 1 or 2? To avoid being “type-cast”, best you get your body “circulating” and TAKE STEPS to accept a healthy lifestyle challenge – not only for yourself, but for your family and friends.

Now in its fourth year, the Diabetes SA Global Walk – Durban, which has become a successful annual event, is taking place on Sunday, November 29th from the Lower Marine Parade Amphitheatre at the Bay of Plenty at 8am.

The organisers and supporters of Diabetes SA Global Walk – Durban are all set to go and aim to encourage over 3000 walkers to enter this 5km event.

In addition to the walk, there will be a festive Wellness Expo which allows members of the public to receive free glucose and blood pressure tests amongst other exciting features. Local personalities will also be entertaining the crowds and offering loads of lucky draws and family getaways.

“South Africa needs and encourages more events like ours as not many people are aware that Diabetes is a serious medical condition. Diabetes is caused by too much glucose in the bloodstream and has been dubbed the ‘silent killer’ for years and we seriously need to do something about it collectively!” says Jenny Russell, the Branch Manager at Diabetes SA in Durban.  “Don’t risk it - I encourage everyone to improve their health and take control of their lifestyle - from monitoring what they eat, to exercising,” she added.

To register for the walk, simply collect your entry form from the Diabetes SA Durban office at Davenport Square in Glenwood at Office 62 on the 1st floor where personnel will be on duty to help with the registration process. The first 1000 early bird entries will receive a T-Shirt & goodie-bag and the following 500 will only receive a T-Shirt.

Registration will be open from 9am until 3pm from November 16th – 28th for collection of goodie-bags and registration enquiries. No goodie-bags or t-shirts will be handed out on the day of the event!

Pat Bonini of Nerve Events, who are the organisers of this annual walk, encourages the public to support this event at just R50 per person. “All proceeds go towards supporting a worthy cause, that of Diabetes SA, so bring along all your friends, cousins, extended family and even bring your dogs along on a leash,” she added with a smile.

There will be loads of lucky draws taking place after the walk where one can win fantastic prizes including a TV, family getaways to the Berg, the Bush, the Beach or the Battlefields, courtesy of the Gooderson Leisure Hospitality Group. Local Wellness celebrity Lisa Raleigh will once again be the MC for this event.
